How I Reduce Waste…

Reducing the amount of rubbish we throw away is so important for keeping our world healthy. Lately I have been really finding it interesting to explore ways of reducing my waste and finding re-usable substitutes. I have been focussing on these swaps for around 4 weeks now and I have already noticing that our bin bags are not filling up half as quickly. For example me and Liam would easily fill our rubbish bin with in a few days, now I can’t remember the last time I changed the bin!

I have only made a handful of swaps and there are a lot more I am working on, but today I would love to share with you 6 easy swaps I have made so far.

Kitchen Roll

I was finding me and Liam would throw away massive amounts of used kitchen roll daily. We decided to swap the kitchen roll for washable micro-fibre cloths. These are amazing! They can be used and the. Washed with our daily laundry load and it’s so easy. I picked up 6 from Lidl for only £3.00 and the 6 are working out perfectly for us.

Carrier Bags

Me and Liam both work in a food Shop, so it’s so easy for us to pick up our shopping while at work, however we was noticing that we would be buying and. Or rescuing a carrier bag daily. Not only is that filling up our landfill with plastic bags it’s also costing us a small fortune! We worked Ito it that we could be spending around £24.00 a year on carrier bags and I would much rather spend that on other more exciting things! To avoid this we brought our self a reusable shopper from Primark it only cost £1.00 and it’s bigger and stronger than a plastic bag and so much better for the environment!

Sanitary items

I know that this won’t apply to everyone but for me this was one of the best swaps I have made so far! Did you know that in one disposable sanitary pad there is the same amount of plastic equivalent to 3 plastic bags, that’s a whole lot of plastic to waste over our lifetime! Also sanitary items are bloody expensive! That’s why I have donated all my sanitary items to family and I have started using a menstrual cup! Not only is this a cheaper alternative as one cup can last up to 10 years! It’s also saving a whole lot of sanitary items ending up in landfill. I have a few more post planned about this if your interested in knowing more about re usable menstrual products just let me know and I’ll share some more information with you!

This was something I never payed much attention to, however after looking into how much waste I was producing I noticed I could easily lessen this by shopping smart with produce. I have been buying loose as and when I can and not putting them into those little produce bags most supermarkets provide. This is a complete waste of plastic and 100% not needed.

Food Shopping

Linking with above it became clear to us that we was throwing a lot of food away due to not using it in time of use by dates or just over buying. To avoid this waste we have started to make a strict meal plan and only buy what we need for it. We freeze short life food items or use them up first to avoid waste. Also before we write our shopping list we look at what we already Have in the cupboards and fridge. By doing this we usually do not need to buy half as much food shopping and thus saving a load of money! We have worked on getting our weekly shop for two down to between £20 and £30 and it’s great!

Water bottles

I have never realised just how much of a waste it is to buy bottled water. Not only does it cost far to much money it’s also littering our world with empty plastic bottles. Switching to a reusable water bottle not only has saved us money but the environment to. And if your worried about the taste of tap water, its exactly the same as bottled!

I really encourage you to make some of these swaps also, I set you the challenge of just making one swap a week for a month and I am sure you will be shocked with what you DONT throw away!

If you would like more posts like this just let me know!

Love Fern

February Goals

Today is the first day of February, Christmas is a distant memory and now where looking ahead to Valentines day and Easter! With it being a brand new month I wanted to set some new goals and as always  share them with you.

I think Goal setting is super important, I love how setting goals keeps me motivated to achieve and succeed . I love the excited feeling I get when I can say I have achieved something and this motivates me further to set new goals! In all honestly January has been a bit of a flop when it comes to goal setting I have achieved a few but I am dragging alot through with me into February and this is 100% not going to happen again at the end of the month. I am motivated!

With February being the shortest month I am making it my mission to do something everyday to make myself feel proud and that brings me closer towards my goals, I will be tweeting what I have done each day on my twitter so make sure your following me over there to keep updated with how I am doing!

My February 2018 Goals

  • Reach 400 followers on Twitter
  • Use Pinterest More (you can follow my boards here)
  • Drink more water and green Teas
  • Cut out the unhealthy Snacks
  • Keep to my blogging upload schedual

I have hopefully set myself some achievable goals.that I will be proud to achieve. What I have learnt in previous months is setting myself goals that are way to hard or unrealistic will really demotivate me to work to try and achieve them.

Whats the point of working hard at something if you deep down know its not going to be achievable…

I hope you have enjoyed being nosy into what my goals are this month. If you have any goals I would love to hear them and help support you in achieving them!

Keeping Healthy

How I Stay Hydrated

Part of my new years goals was to drink a lot more water. (you can find the full post here) I have been doing this now for around a week and feel as if I am doing really well! I am drinking more than 2000ml a day and its not feeling like a massive task! I have so much more energy and my skin is already looking thankful for the extra water intake.

For today’s post, I thought I would share with you how I have increased my water intake. its been super easy to make a few easy changes to my lifestyle and I am already loving the benefits!

Tip Number One:

Drink a glass of water as soon as you wake up. This helped remind me every morning that I need to drink more water throughout the day. It sounds so simple but this really helped motivate and encourage me. “Start as you mean to go on” I think the saying goes.

Tip Number Two:

Drink from a water bottle. While I would love an Hydratem8 I cant justify that amount of26610807_10208659931974334_499132572_o.jpg money on a water bottle, although I am likely to treat myself to it in the next coming months! I currently have a 750ml purple water bottle that I brought for around £2.99 unfortunately I cant remember where I got it from but it does the job perfectly. I find I am so much more motivated to drink more water if I have it on hand to drink from throughout the day. keeping the water bottle on me always helps to remind me to drink more water, I try and drink two of these water bottles a day, it really is so rewarding when you finish a bottle and I can re fill it up.

Tip Number Three:

26551892_10208659931254316_1696020997_n.jpgTrack your water intake. This is super motivating, I currently use the water tracker on my fitbit app. There are so many apps for water tracking I am sure you can find one that suits you. Aiming for a water intake goal and tracking your water intake to achieve the goal can also be super satisfying, I find it is like ticking off something from a to do list!

Tip Number Four:

Drink a glass of water before each meal. Not only will this help fill you up quicker and prevent you over eating, its also a perfect way of keeping hydrated. I always found that after I had eaten a meal I felt super thirsty now I do not have that horrible dry mouth feeling after my food. Drinking a glass of water before each meal has been a habit I have found to get into really easily.

I am really hoping you have found this little post helpful. I am no where near an expert but these are just the things that I have been doing and have been working for me!

Monthly Wishlists

Dear 2018

After a short break over the Christmas season, I am back with a new post. I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas season and received some lovely gifts. I am so ready for 2018. I have deep cleaned the flat, the Christmas decorations are down and I have been thinking about some goals I would like to achieve in the year of 2018.

If you have any goals for 2018 I would love to hear from you, we can do this together!

My Main goal is to be a happier and more content version of myself and I have a few ideas about how ill get there!

Number One:

This is going to be the hardest to achieve. I have decided its time I  started loosing weight again. Earlier last year I Managed to loose nearly two stone and I felt amazing! this really helped improve my mental health and my acne too. The past few months I have slipped back into old habits and the weight has tumbled back on!  My goal is to loose 2 stone, its going to be hard but I am sure I will get there, if anyone else has a similar goal to me, please get in touch I am thinking about creating a twitter group chat so we can all offer each other motivation and support.

Number Two:

I am a lover of routine, however the past few months my life has followed no routine and its starting to really bother me. I am going to spend the month of January working on cleaning routines, day time routines and night time routines. Basically I need a routine for everything haha! My blog posting  has not followed any sort of schedual also so I have been thinking about it and have deciede on the following…

Number Three:

Drink more water, this sort of links with Number One, I hardly drink enough water, I drink plenty of tea if not too much but no where near enough water. I aim to drink at least a litre of water a day, this is going to be tricky but I am going to try so hard. This will hopefully also stop me from snacking. Fingers crossed I can do this!

Number Four:

I am a big advocate for “me” time, however in all honestly the past few weeks I have not taken enough time for myself to just relax and be me. Its time I listened to my own advice and take some time out my busy life and relax.

Number Five:

This is my last one and I think its going to be equally as hard as Number One. Its time to let things go! I am constantly getting myself upset or annoyed because of the tiny little things in life. its time I just let it go and not let it bother me any more. I have no idea if this will be achievable but giving it my very best go will hopefully equal to a happier more contented me.

I would love to hear what you think of my goals? have I taken on too many? if you are interested in my little group chat idea let me know I would love to hear from you.

Hope you all have a lovely New years and I shall be posting again on Monday with a food shop haul!
