Christmas Shopping Tips and Tricks

I feel as if today’s post links really nicely with yesterdays post, if you have not already had a little read of my Christmas gift guide for her, then you can find it here. Today’s post is all about my tips and tricks for ensuring all your Christmas shopping runs smoothly and stress free.

Start Early

For me this is so important, we have such a huge family so its vital I start thinking about budgets and what I would like to buy everyone.I start the whole process off in September by buying a new notebook, that I dedicate to all my Christmas needs. I will then allow my self some time to write a list of everyone I would like to buy gifts for and look at my finances and decide suitable budgets.Without spending a little bit of time doing this ill go crazy and spend all my money and have hundreds and hundreds of presents to wrap and gift. These lists keep me focussed.

Keep Your Eyes Peeled

I have picked up some amazing presents and really good prices by just keeping my eyes on lookout while I am out and about. I do this as soon as I have written my list and If I see it I buy it. The amount of times I have seen something and a week later its gone and not to be brought back into stock is heart breaking. By Picking up bits and bobs over a few months and storing them away is so handy, you end up with some amazing gifts and really good prices and when the shops are super busy with everyone doing there shopping you are almost done so you can enjoy the festive season even more.

Shop With A Focus

Sometimes you cant pick up everything in little bits so you need a big shopping trip. Its important to do this with a plan and plenty of time.Allow time for browsing and long queues. Bring a friend or family member and make it an event! stop for lunch and have a lovely day, enjoy the festive displays and the atmosphere.

Before you go agree on the shops you would like to visit and what your looking for this keeps your shopping focussed and then your only entering shops you need to. if you have some spare time you can always wonder round the shops you didn’t have planned

Wrap As You Go

Dont leave all your Christmas wrapping to the last minute, you wont enjoy it and it can become very boring. I love wrapping presents and I love spending time to add bows and Ribbons. I enjoy wrapping presents , I usually make myself a hot chocolate listen to Buble and wrap away. I find if I wrap presents as soon as I buy them I enjoy it alot more, I also love looking at the piles of presents building up under the tree. it makes me super happy.

I hope you have found my tips and tricks helpful, if you have any more please let me know! I still feel like I havnt quite mastered the Christmas shopping but I am getting there.

Christmas Gift Guide For Her

There are so many of these posts around and I love them. I love reading these for present inspiration and I love looking at these and deciding if there is anything I wish to add to my Christmas list.

Here are some gifts for her that I am almost certain that everyone will enjoy!

Food and drink

This time of year is all about food and drink, and that is why I think it makes such lovely presents. you can find some amazing food and drink hampers and gift boxes pre made or you could always make and gift your own full of their favourites. I love these sorts of presents and I am sure your loved ones will to.

Here are a few little hampers I think look especially AMAZING!….

356755-everything-collection-NEWHotel Chocolat, have the most amazing gift boxes and hampers, they can come in all different styles, tastes and prices. and their chocolates are simply divine! they also have a section just for secret Santa presents and I thought that was very handy to know! The Everything Chocolate Hamper Gift Collection describes its self as some of the most celebrated recipes in our entire chocolate collection. An effortless chocolate hamper gift for any chocolate-lover. This retails for £25 and I think its an amazing price considering everything you receive with it.

Another Amazing food and drink hamper company is Prestige Hampers, although a little SW004-16more on the pricey side they offer hundreds of hampers to suit anyone’s taste buds! for me I especially loved the look of their sweet delight gift box, its describes itself as a fabulous and generous assortment of everyone’s favourite taste bud experiences with flying saucers, Jelly Beans, chocolate caramels and more. This box is currently on sale for £26.99 and I have fallen in love with it!

I think Candles are always such a lovely present to receive. I never think you can go wrong with candles, I personally love them and can never have too many! I also think candles can suit any budget, you can pay hardly a penny fro some really lovely candles or you can spent a fortune of white company candles. all of which I am sure would make a lovely gift! While I am an absolute lover of Yankee Candles, I am starting to find they are ridiculously priced for what they are! I started looking for alternatives.
img_38401.jpgThat is when I came across a lovely company called Mels Melts on Etsy. She makes the most AMAZING candles, wax melts and tea lights and they smell INCREDIBLE! her candles are priced so reasonably and they are also packaged really sweetly. I personally find her candles produce such a lovely smell and in my personal opinion smell even better than Yankee Candle. You must all head over to her sites and see for your self! they really are a candle game changer!

I am certain these will make such a lovely present for someone this year. I received my order really quickly so is perfect for any last minute gifts. They IMG_3846[1]are so many scents to choose from but I personally recommend choccy Truffle and gingerbread. My whole flat IMG_3847[1]smelt good enough to eat and I was super upset when I had run out! I need to do another order I think! I think these would make excellent stocking fillers or you could even buy a couple and make your own little candle gift set, the possibilities are endless! The candles can even come gift boxed so that makes things even easier for you, the boxes are super sweet and the candles fit in them perfectly.

My Top Festive Foods And Drinks

It’s blogmas day 11! We are nearly at the half way mark! Are you enjoying your December so far? I would love to hear about what your all getting up to!

For me one of my favourite things about Christmas is the food and drink! Me and Liam have a Christmas hamper full of goodies that we keep in the living room, so we can munch as much as we like during this merry season! This changes all the time as we are constantly re filling it with new yummy foods and drinks to replace the ones we have eaten!

Today I am going to be sharing with you my favourite treats for this time of year, what are your favourites? What shall I add to our hamper?

As you may or may not know, I absolutely love gingerbread! And this time of year is full off gingerbread! While I absolutely love making my super easy gingerbread, you can find the recipe here. And these are definitely in my top foods. Mr Kipling released a few years ago gingerbread whirls. These are exactly like their traditional Viennese whirls but in my opinion a million times more tasty! They are gingerbread flavoured! Get in my belly!
In our family we have a tradition of always giving each other a Cadbury selection box for Christmas. For me Christmas would not be Christmas without selection boxes. I love them and it’s something I will continue to love.

If you can’t have chocolate for Breakfast on Christmas Morning … when can you?

Sticking with a chocolate theme. I bloody love a Terry’s chocolate orange. I know you can buy these all year round for me it’s a Christmas treat! I love that you have to smash it open and all the little segments break apart. I always think they smell amazing aswell! So festive and scrumpy!

Got chocolates are 100% my favourite Christmas drink! I love filling my mug with squirts creams, marshmallows and anything else I can find to top it all off, however to make it super festive I have been sprinkling a little bit of cinnamon on the top. This is a lovely touch and really makes it feel even more Christmassy.

I love the Vimto drink you can buy, and at Christmas time they always release a winter spice flavoured Vimto. It is recommended you serve this hot and it’s the perfect way to warm up on a cold December day. I love this drink and will be super sad when they stop selling it again. Best I start stocking up on it!

Finally I thought I would end this post on an alcoholic drink, as I can’t lie these are usually my go to Christmas celebration drink. I love drinking port and lemonade during the month of December. It’s not my usual go to drink however there is something really special and Christmassy about it. It tastes just like Ribenna and Wally is super yummy. I love this drink and I will defiantly be drinking lots of it the closer we get to Christmas!

And that the end of blogmas day 11! December is going super fast for me this year!

Hope you are all well and having a lovely festive season!

My Snow Day

Today is a slightly different kind of blog post, and it’s defiantly not what I had planned for today but giving the weather I Thought you may like to have a little read. Today I am going to tell you all about my snow day! Hope you enjoy!

Today Britain woke up to a white blanket, it was beautiful! Like a child I woke up at 8 o clock and was up and dressed by half 8 ready for a snowy walk with Liam! I was so excited about the snow it even gave me a nose bleed! Everything looked beautiful and the snow was untouched it was our very own winter wonderland and it was magical!

We walked to Liam’s mum and dads and popped in for a cup of tea, it was well needed as we definetly needed to warm up! We stayed and watched the cars struggling up the hill, I can’t lie it was a little exciting seeing whether or not the cars would make it! Then we had a cup of tea with Liam’s grandad who popped round his mums. It was lovely and I felt so cosy being all cosy and warm with lots of cups of tea!

After that Liam went home he needed to get ready for work, I was invited to stay for a sausage casserole and I gladly accepted a Cooked meal beats a tin of soup any day!

When Liam’s grandad went home we walked up to Liam’s Nans house for some biscuits and more tea. The snow was super thick and it took three of us to push a buggy through the snow, we must of looked so comical to anyone that was watching us.

By the time we got home it was around three o clock and not long till the sausage caserole. I decided to stay at their house and catch up on my social media and as I sit with yet ANOTHER cup of tea and a small pepperoni pizza I am writing this, happy days!

The plans for the rest of the day are simple! Drink hot chocolate eat yummy food and then later have a pamper night and watch a Christmas film! This honestly makes me so happy! I wish everyday could be a snow day!

I hope you have enjoyed reading about my day! If you would like more posts like this let me know, I have acctually really enjoyed writing it! Also send me your snowy pictures I love seeing them!

A Festive December…

Todays post is going to be all about what I have been/will be getting up to in the month of December. I have so much going on this month is going to be so hard to document it all. I am going to be posting lots on Instagram so make sure your following me on there @LifeWithFernie. Ill be posting lots of pictures about my December so keep a look out.

To kick start the festive Celebrations, Me and Liam will be spending a day out in a near by town going Christmas shopping. We have so much shopping to do, so I am hoping the say will be successful with maybe a cheeky Mcdonalds lunch thrown in aswell. What kind of shopper are you? an on line shopper or a out and about shopper? I definitely prefer looking at all the shops and picking the presents up that way. I just feel Like I pick up the best kinds of presents this way.

Our town holds a torch light precession. this is an event where everyone receives glow sticks and torches, We all March down the high street then sing carols in our local park. this is such a lovely event and something I defiantly wont miss. This is also held in the village I grew up in, I have to admit I prefer the village on to the town one, I think its because it holds such a sentimental value for me as it feels so familiar. I just love it. this year will be extra special  as my mum is taking part in one of the singing performances, this is something I especially cant miss this year.

Liams family will always have a HUGE family meal to celebrate Christmas. This year there will be around 30 of us all meeting for a huge Christmas dinner, this will be so lovely and I cant wait for good food and great company. This is something I look forward to every year, and this year as there is so many of us, its going to be hopefully the best Christmas meal ever.

Finally When its a little closer to Christmas I will be cooking me and Liam our own Christmas dinner for just the two of us. On the actual Christmas day we are having lunch at his parents house so I thought it would be a lovely idea if we also have our own Christmas dinner too. After all can you have too many Christmas dinners? what id your favourite part of your Christmas dinner? mine is defiantly pigs in blankets YUM YUM!

I hope you have enjoyed reading what I am so far planning to do this christmas, if you have any ideas that I must do let me know, I feel like I dont have many festive things planned in the run up to Christmas.

Super Easy Gingerbread

It would not be Christmas if there was no gingerbread! gingerbread is My favourite Christmas treat. I love the warmth it gives and it just makes me feel super festive and cosy. I love dunking gingerbread in milk to make it soft, its the best evening treat!

A Festive Flat Tour

As some of you may know this year is mine and liams first Christmas in our flat. We have absolutely loved decorating the flat out for Christmas and I am super pleased with our decorations and how the flat looks. I thought I would share with you what our flat looks like all christmassy, maybe it will give you some inspiration or if your like me you will enjoy looking at and being nosy at our festive flat.

Our living room is mainly where we spend our time so we kept this room as the main decorated room. we have our tree here too. If you would like to see a more in depth tree tour click the link here.

IMG_3897ill start of by showing you how we have decorated our storage heater, do not worry we are not using this heater so its absolutely perfectly safe to decorate it. We chose to use some silver tinsel and I added a home made snowman a little sign another snowman,a jar of tiny baubles and lastly a winter spice reed diffuser. I love this little set up.

On my out TV unit we have decorated it with a few little ornaments too, we have also IMG_3931filled a big glass vase with baubles and lights. its so simple but I think it looks so pretty and festive.I found this glittery sign in a local IMG_3932shop and I love how these looks side by side. On the other side of the unit, I have placed a light up snowman and father Christmas, a nativity scene and another home made fairy decoration.

Our living room has a big bay window so we filled that with lots of festive bits and bobs. Including a singing Santa and snowman sweet container and candy canes. I love IMG_3938these three together and I especially love all the yummy treats we can fill the snowman’s belly with. to fill the rest of this large space we decided to put up another tree in the centre. This is a little 2ft tree from B&M bargains, I brought this last year but I am sure you can find these pretty much anywhere. we decorated this with gold IMG_3941baubles and red beading.the tree has built in lights too which we found so helpful and convenient. To finish this space of we hung a tinsel stocking and a Christmas hat in the window and hung some red tinsel aswell. I think this is my favourite little nook of the flat at the minute.

Next to the main Christmas tree we have a huge IMG_3943shelving unit. this is pretty full with all our junk so I didn’t have much space to turn christmassy. So I just placed a glittery sign that says “let it snow” and placed these three little guys. more on these on my Christmas decorations haul post. And to finish of our living room we brought some fleece blankets IMG_3947super cheap from the original factory shop for £4 each to cover our sofas. these are not the best quality but I love how they look and they do make the sofa super cosy.

And that is our living room full of Christmas and I love it! if you would like to see any more of our Christmas flat tour then let me know. I didn’t want this post to be too long you see.

If you have not seen my last post then you can find it here. I hope your having a wonderful December full of lots of Christmas activities and festivities. I would love to hear all about it.

Chritstmas Tree Tour

For todays post, I thought I would give you a mini tour of my Christmas tree! I love seeing other people trees so I thought I would share mine.

Here is an over view of our tree, we decided  not to have tinsel on our tree as we personally feel they look cluttered with tinsel on. but we do have tinsel dotted about the flat, after all what’s Christmas if it doesn’t have tinsel! We have a mix of battery and mains operated lights and we love this, we like the warmth of lights too they make the room feel ever so cosy and we love that!

I thought I would also show you a few of my favourite Christmas tree decorations we have on the tree.

We got four of these acrylic Christmas trees super cheap! and I love the simplicity of them. They look like glass on the tree and the lights twinkle through them, I find myself often looking at these Decorations.

As we don’t have tinsel on our tree I have tied bows around a few of the branches to fill up some of the gaps. I especially love this one. Its an old red glittery ribbon and I have tied this guardian angel on it, this was a gift that I was given a few years ago it was originally on a keying but it unfortunately broke so this has a lot of sentimental value.

IMG_3877This Stag head looks so lovely hidden in all the lights, I like that he is a little bit hidden so its lie a little game to find him. I wish I brought more of him now as I have a massive soft spot for him.

When I first found these little white snow flakes at my local scout hut I fell in love with them, they are made from a felt kind of material and I loved the simplicity of them. I wish I knew where these where from as I would love to cover my tree in them next year. if anyone knows where to find them let me know!

IMG_3875I love love LOVE this decoration. I love the grey and white on it as I think these colours always looks so lovely next to each other. I love the shape of it and I just think its so simple and pretty. this always brings a smile to my face! IMG_3874

Who does not like glitter? and who does not like glitter especially at Christmas time! I love these silver baubles so much I think they are my favourite baubles I have ever had!

To top our tree we opted for a star, I have never had a star on top of a tree before as I have always had an angel, I love this white star even though its very big and heavy and pulls on the tree, haha I like that it gives our tree and little bit of a personality. Our star had little flecks of green tinsel in it and I love that it gives a subtle bit of colour.

Hope your enjoying my blogmas so far! did you see my last post? I am loving reading all your Christmassy post so don’t forget to send me your links!

A Selfless Christmas

Christmas is a super busy and joyous time of year however for some people this is not always the case, This year is a super busy Christmas however I still wanted to ensure I helped as many people as possible and give as many people as possible a very merry Christmas or at least contribute to it. That why I have decided to have a selfless Christmas.

After lots of thinking and hundreds of ideas I have narrowed it down to five, It was so hard just picking five however i just personally do not have the time or money to do it all. However my theory is that if everyone in the world does just five selfless things this Christmas we could make a MASSIVE impact on so many lives.

I really urge you to think of five selfless acts that you could do this season and I would love to hear what you have been getting up to, we really could make such a difference this Christmas and what a wonderful things that is to do.

below I have explained the five things I am going to do this Christmas, I hope I have inspired someone to do the same as me, lets spread some Christmas cheer!

I have decided that every time I do my weekly food shop from now till Christmas I shall buy three extra items and donate it to my local food banks. In my local coop and Sainsburys there is a huge bin that the items can be donated too so this its so easy to donate. maybe your local shops do this too? as I am writing this I know there is 5 more shopping trips till Christmas so that is at least 15 items of food I will be donating. Imagine if we all did that?

In addition to that I will also be using the donation boxes that are on our tills in our local shops. In our town there is always donation buckets by the tills, from now on I will be donating all my change every time I shop, to one of these buckets. Over time all my change will add up and can be used to help so many other people. I am going to be encouraging everyone I know to do the same to. after all…

look after the pennies and the pounds will look after themselves

Keeping with the donating theme, My local coop is organising a toy collection to help children in our local area that are living in poverty and are likely not to receive a present this Christmas. I will be purchasing a toy brand new and donating it to them. I am sure there is so many projects like this around, especially this time of year, maybe you could donate a toy too?

I work in retail and this is such a massively busy time for us, its often easy to lose the Christmas cheer as its super stressful. this year I am going to bake lots of yummy Christmas treats and take them into work for the staff to munch on during their breaks, I hope this will lift everyone’s mood and bring back some festive fun into this busy time.

Finally I am going to write and send letters of appreciation to friends and family. I hope that these little letters and cards will put a smile of everyone face and I hope to inspire other people to do the same. if we all wrote one letter and they wrote one and so on and so on, there could be so many happy people in the world and knowing that makes me feel amazing!

So those are my very small way I am having a selfless Christmas, and I really hope I have inspired you to do the same!

Cheerio for now,

Fern xx
