A Family Breakfast

Today I visited a lovely little cafe for some very yummy breakfast! This cafe is in our local town and is lovely. they offer a wide range of breakfast and lunch options along with lots of milkshakes, healthy smoothies and the classic teas coffees and hot chocolates.

26972912_10208739442722053_1723139599_oI went to this Cafe with Liam, his sister and her two tiniest daughters (the big one was at school) the cafe was lovely clean and inviting and the staff made us feel very welcome. On arrival we sat down and fetched some menus and the waitress took our drinks and food orders. Liam went for a cup of tea with a bacon roll, Liams sister decided for a cooked breakfast with a latte and I fancied the mango, passion fruit and pineapple smoothies with French toast.

We didn’t have to wait long before our food arrived and when it 26972570_10208739442562049_79653001_o.jpgdid it was delicious! My smoothie was amazing and I have not stopped thinking about it since. my breakfast was also incredibly scrummy! Everyone else scoffed their breakie up with no complaints so I am sure the feeling was mutual.

It was so lovely to spend some time together and have a giggle and put the world to rights. Its something we do not do very often which made it so lovely and special. and we have all agreed to do it again!

Spending time with family or friends and doing something as simple as just meeting up for a breakfast can lift your mood incredibly! I have not stopped smiling all day and I feel like I am on top of the world. Family is so special and I quite often forget just how much they mean to me. I am 100% going to grab every opportunity to spend time with family and friends from now on. And make sure they know just how much I love and care for them…

If you have any suggestions of fun and cheap things to do with family and friends let me know, I would love to try some new things out!

Achieving Happiness

26157479_199145647305656_2075757303314776064_n.jpgHello! My name is Yasmin, I’m a university student and a fellow blogger and the amazing Fernie kindly asked me to guest post on her blog! This is a lovely opportunity, and I’m very excited about this post! I will be talking about one of the hardest journeys most of us face in our lives, reaching a point where we can truly say we love ourselves, inside and out.

I will be sharing some tips I believe can truly help you reach a place of self happiness, whatever that means to you…

#1 Do one nice thing for yourself daily – This could be taking a walk, making your favourite drink, or allowing yourself half an hour to indulge in a good book. Whatever it is, do it and don’t feel guilty about it! We must treat ourselves well, we work so hard sometimes we just need a break.

#2 Forgiveness – This can be difficult, but moving on from your mistakes and viewing them as a learning curve and not just a complete disaster can be a huge help.

#3 Stop comparing yourself – Comparing your looks, traits, strengths, and weaknesses to other people’s will not help you feel better about yourself. Our uniqueness is what makes us different from all those people, and why all your friends and family love you.

#4 Cut toxic habits and relationships – People and activities that bring you down do nothing for your self love. Cut the people and things from your life that don’t bring you joy, happiness and peace.

#5 Self care ritual – It’s so important we slow down every now and then to take time for ourselves to relax. I love to have a shower, put on a face mask and paint my nails and toes as my little self care routine, it really does help you feel great about yourself!

#6 Notice the beauty around you – Take a moment the next time you step outside your door and appreciate all the beautiful things that surround you. There is beauty everywhere, and loving your environment and surroundings can help you learn to love yourself.

#7 Track your success – Keeping track of all the things you accomplish can be a great way to show yourself that yes, you can do things and you are amazing! It’s a great little book to keep and look back on when you’re not feeling too brilliant, it helps to reiterate all the reasons you’re needed and appreciated.

#8 Meditation – Regularly practising meditation can be immensely helpful. It helps you destress and be happy with yourself. There are plenty of free youtube videos demonstrating guided meditation practises, why not give one a try!

#9 Exercise in a way you enjoy – We all know the benefits regularly exercising can bring, but it doesn’t have to be a painful process you dread every day. Find a form of exercise you enjoy. This could be running, yoga, the gym, a team/individual sport, or even dancing! Find something that suits your mindset and your body will thank you!

#10 Get out there and own the world! – Enjoy your life, accept your mistakes and move on to a brighter place, live in appreciation of all the good people and things that surround you, focus on the positive, don’t neglect yourself and most importantly, love who you are!

I hope you enjoyed this post, and thanks again to Fernie for giving me the opportunity to write it! Lots of love to everyone!

My Make Up Storage

One of my very first blog posts explained how I stored all my make-up and  you can find that post here. That post was written back in around August 2017 when me and Liam still lived with his parents. Now we are living in our own flat and my make up storage has changed more times than I count! however Now I am finally completely happy with how it looks and I wanted to share it with you!

I store all my vanity bits and pieces on top of my chest of draws. Today I am only going to be telling you about what is on the top of the chest of drawers but if you would like another post about what is inside the draws let me know!

IMG_0063On the left hand side of the chest of drawers I keep my mirror. This Mirror was a present one birthday and it lights up this is a super handy feature. I love this mirror so much! Next to this I have a silver heart shape jewellery stand. This was given to me on my 18th birthday and I think its super pretty. On this I store a few of my perfumes I tend to reach for the most. I also store my everyday Jewellery on this when I am not wearing it.Behind these two things I have a Picture of me and my dad at a beach and a hand drawn picture Liam drew me years ago. I love this space and its really practical for me to use.

In the middle of the chest of draws I keep my Jewellery box. I have had this box for as long as I can remember and I love it. it has three draws on one side that I keep my earrings and other bits and pieces in and on the right hand side there is space to hang Necklaces and bracelets. I love that this side is accessed by a glass door that has a flower painted onto. On top of my jewellery box I keep a little glass jar with a ribbon tied round it. In there I keep all my make-up brushes. I also have a ink sign that says “Happiness is Home made” and I love that saying so much I really do think that`s true and I try to remind myself that every morning while I am getting ready. I also store on here a rock I picked up from my favourite beach in Norfolk.

Finally on the far right of the chest of drawers I use acrylic storage to keep my make-up. IIMG_0066 picked these up really cheaply from Wilkos. These two pieces of acrylic storage fit together really easily to create one large set of storage and I love that. Unfortunately the exact ones I have they no longer stock but you can purchase similar ones here. I love these containers and I highly Recommend them. I have thread tiny fairy lights all round the vanity set up and I love how pretty it looks. I picked these lights up at Primark for about £2 and they are perfect. I love that they are battery powered aswell so I dont have to have them plugged in.

And that is how I am currently storing my Makeup and Jewellery. I love reading these sorts of posts so make sure if you have a link to them you send it to me!

Organising My Fridge

I am sure to some of you this will be a very dull and completely boring however if any of you are like me with a secrete love of all things housework, organising and cleaning this will be an absolute treat for you!

The other day I came home from our weekly shop and started to put everything away (this is something I find super satisfying!) When I got round to putting all the chilled bits and bobs away I realised how messy my fridge was. Something had to change!

I started of by taking a steps back and looking at the food I already had in there. Some of these things I am ashamed to say were way past their use by dates and needed to be thrown out. this cleared so much room the new and fresh foods.

IMG_0054Next up I started by emptying the whole fridge and giving everything a really good wipe down with my Zolfora. If you have not heard of Zoflora Google it now its mazing and I have a serious love for it! I use an old spray bottle filled with a couple of caps of Zolfora and filled with water. This is the perfect disinfectant spray that also made my fridge smell AMAZING!

When Everything was clean it was time to re organise the shelves and the inside of the IMG_0058door. I put all our fruits and vegetables in the tray at the bottom, Meats above that then dairy’s above the meats. I decided to keep the top shelf clear so we can easily store our lunch boxes and water bottles.

IMG_0061Next I looked at the door and realised I had no need for three sections. I kept all drinks in the bottom section and sauces on the one above it. I did not want to waste the empty container that now was not needed so I decided I would use it to keep our eggs in. I played around with different positions of this and lost two eggs along the way haha! but I finally settled on the container being placed at the back of the fridge.

I am in love with how organised and fresh smelling my fridge now is, if you have any tips or secrets for keeping your fridge organised and clean let me know! I love hearing and trying out new ideas.

Super Easy Sausage Rolls

This is a post I never thought I would write. My cooking and baking abilities are not to a high standard but I really do try! I love to cook and bake and its something I would love to get better at. One thing I fell like I have really mastered is these super easy home made sausage rolls  and I am super excited to share my recipe with you!

I will warn you now, I am terrible at explaining this but I am hoping I make sort of sense haha!

If you recreate these I would love to here about it! Tweet me @LifeWithFernie or show me on Instagram @LifeWithFernie. I cant wait to see them!

You Will Need:

  • Puff Pastry
  • 8 Sausages
  • A dash of Milk
  • Baking Paper

Gather all your ingredients together and preheat the oven to 200c. I always find that really  Having everything I will need in front of me really helps me feel organised and creates an environment I can work better in.

Roll out your puff pastry so its around Half a CM thick  and place it on a sheet of baking paper.Alternatively you could be incredibly lazy and buy pre-rolled out pastry that already comes on a baking sheet (this is what I did)

Remove the sausage skins and place the sausage meat into a bowl. I find the IMG_0034easiest way to do this is by using kitchen scissors and cutting the skins off. Once you have a bowl of sausage meat, mix the meat together (so they no longer look like sausages) and add a pinch of salt pepper and mix herbs. I love doing this but season to your taste.

IMG_0037Now its time to place the sausage meat onto the pastry. I start by placing little bits of sausage meat around 1cm away from the edge of the pastry and keep adding the meat along the pastry. To make a long sausage along the pastry. Then using your fingers and a little bit of milk dampen the pastry all the way along this will help the pastry to stick together.

Next step is to Roll the pastry over the sausage meat and cut of any pastry that is IMG_0040left.Using your fingers squash the two ends of pastry together to make sure its all sealed.Using a sharp Knife make cuts along the sausage I tend to make a cut every 4cm or so.

IMG_0043Place the sausage roll and baking paper on a baking tray and cook in the oven for  30mins on 200c. Finally when the sausage roll is cooked remove from the oven and while still hot cut into your bite size pieces I tend to use the cuts I made as a guide.

I hope you have been inspired to make your own sausage rolls! do not forget to send me pictures if you have recreated this recipe!

My Most Worn LipStick

During the Month of December I really enjoyed wearing lipsticks, I really started to enjoy experimenting with different sorts of colours and working out what does and doesn’t suit me. I found my self picking up warm berry tones a lot during the month and on the occasion nude colours.

For today’s post I wanted to share with you my most worn and favourite lipstick of December 2017!

I have absolutely Loved wearing this lipstick. It is the perfect berry shade for the winter months and I have found it has really suited me. The Bourjois Rouge Editon Velvet in the beautiful shade Nud-ist has a lovely Matte Finish to it also, I have never really enjoyed the look of matte finishes on me but I have loved this one.

IMG_0024.JPGThis lip stick is liquid based and is super easy to apply, it has an amazing staying power and doesn’t dry out your lips like some matte Finishes do. I personally feel the packaging feels of really good quality and has a classy look to it, and I love anything that looks classy. (It makes me feel classy too!)

This Lipstick costs around £8.49 personally I feel this is a little bit pricey but I do feel it is definitely worth that money they quality of it justifies that price tag.

I will 100% buying more from this collection and boots currently have a promotion of selected cosmetics by one get one half price including these lipsticks so I must step on it quick!

Keeping Healthy

How I Stay Hydrated

Part of my new years goals was to drink a lot more water. (you can find the full post here) I have been doing this now for around a week and feel as if I am doing really well! I am drinking more than 2000ml a day and its not feeling like a massive task! I have so much more energy and my skin is already looking thankful for the extra water intake.

For today’s post, I thought I would share with you how I have increased my water intake. its been super easy to make a few easy changes to my lifestyle and I am already loving the benefits!

Tip Number One:

Drink a glass of water as soon as you wake up. This helped remind me every morning that I need to drink more water throughout the day. It sounds so simple but this really helped motivate and encourage me. “Start as you mean to go on” I think the saying goes.

Tip Number Two:

Drink from a water bottle. While I would love an Hydratem8 I cant justify that amount of26610807_10208659931974334_499132572_o.jpg money on a water bottle, although I am likely to treat myself to it in the next coming months! I currently have a 750ml purple water bottle that I brought for around £2.99 unfortunately I cant remember where I got it from but it does the job perfectly. I find I am so much more motivated to drink more water if I have it on hand to drink from throughout the day. keeping the water bottle on me always helps to remind me to drink more water, I try and drink two of these water bottles a day, it really is so rewarding when you finish a bottle and I can re fill it up.

Tip Number Three:

26551892_10208659931254316_1696020997_n.jpgTrack your water intake. This is super motivating, I currently use the water tracker on my fitbit app. There are so many apps for water tracking I am sure you can find one that suits you. Aiming for a water intake goal and tracking your water intake to achieve the goal can also be super satisfying, I find it is like ticking off something from a to do list!

Tip Number Four:

Drink a glass of water before each meal. Not only will this help fill you up quicker and prevent you over eating, its also a perfect way of keeping hydrated. I always found that after I had eaten a meal I felt super thirsty now I do not have that horrible dry mouth feeling after my food. Drinking a glass of water before each meal has been a habit I have found to get into really easily.

I am really hoping you have found this little post helpful. I am no where near an expert but these are just the things that I have been doing and have been working for me!

Food Shop Haul And Meal Plan

Today I thought I would share with you a weekly shop for both me and Liam. If you read my last post Dear 2018 you would know that one of my New Years goal was to loose some of the weight I have put back on. So We tried to plan this weeks meals more healthy than we are used to but still enjoyable.

This food shop cost us a total of around the £40 mark and that should keep us going for a week we had some bits left from last weeks food shop aswell. We did our main bulk of shopping in Lidl and brought the fruit from Sainsbury’s. In me and Liam’s opinion the fruit from Lidl never last longer than a day. Everything else from Lidl has been super yummy and can’t complain at All! I hope you enjoy this slightly different post and if you would like more of these let me know!

I Meal Plan every week and hang up the weeks menu in the kitchen. I brought this lovely chalk board from B&M bargains ages ago now and I love it. With out meal planning I would be lost, and I love how it looks in my kitchen.

I only tend to plan our evening meals, this works best for me and Liam as we both work shifts so meal planning lunches as well would be a nightmare! I always make sure there is wraps and an array of fillings for our lunches and there is always some other bits and bobs in the cupboard for lunch as well.

This Week We Are Having…

This is the Main bulk of our shopping. We love the wraps from Lidl so soft and they keep really well to! The tropical juice has also been a bit hit to! I love it. It’s the perfect drink to have at breakfast and tastes amazing to. Me and Liam eat so many rice cakes at the minute, I especially love them with cucumber and a little cream cheese a delicious lunch.

Here we have everything for the freezer. We decided to buy lots of frozen veg that we can have with out meals. Me and Liam eat a lot of chicken so we picked up this huge bag of chicken breast for around £3, we are yet to try it but fingers crossed they taste as good as the Lidl chilled chicken breast. I had meal planned to have a ready meal one night while Liam is working late and I came across this chicken and vegetable pasta. It looked really yummy and was fairly good for you to, so I thought I would give it a go.

We picked up a handful of bits for the fridge too, we go for semi skimmed milk as it tastes almost identical to whole milk while being a little bit better for you. We also picked up some light cream cheese, I love this on my rice cakes for a snack or a quick lunch DELICOUS!

I absolutely adore crisps! There my favourite go to snack! So when I saw these in lidl I had to pick them up. I’m hoping there going to be a slightly healthier to my favourites. This girls can not give up her crisps!

Finally from Sainsbury’s we picked up a couple of different types of fruit for snacking on throughout the day! The strawberries I have already eaten a couple and they were lush! And the apples were amazing too! Really good quality fruit which only came to a couple of pounds, happy days!

I hope you have found this post somewhat interesting and if you would like more of these let me know, I rather enjoyed writing them.

Monthly Wishlists

Dear 2018

After a short break over the Christmas season, I am back with a new post. I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas season and received some lovely gifts. I am so ready for 2018. I have deep cleaned the flat, the Christmas decorations are down and I have been thinking about some goals I would like to achieve in the year of 2018.

If you have any goals for 2018 I would love to hear from you, we can do this together!

My Main goal is to be a happier and more content version of myself and I have a few ideas about how ill get there!

Number One:

This is going to be the hardest to achieve. I have decided its time I  started loosing weight again. Earlier last year I Managed to loose nearly two stone and I felt amazing! this really helped improve my mental health and my acne too. The past few months I have slipped back into old habits and the weight has tumbled back on!  My goal is to loose 2 stone, its going to be hard but I am sure I will get there, if anyone else has a similar goal to me, please get in touch I am thinking about creating a twitter group chat so we can all offer each other motivation and support.

Number Two:

I am a lover of routine, however the past few months my life has followed no routine and its starting to really bother me. I am going to spend the month of January working on cleaning routines, day time routines and night time routines. Basically I need a routine for everything haha! My blog posting  has not followed any sort of schedual also so I have been thinking about it and have deciede on the following…

Number Three:

Drink more water, this sort of links with Number One, I hardly drink enough water, I drink plenty of tea if not too much but no where near enough water. I aim to drink at least a litre of water a day, this is going to be tricky but I am going to try so hard. This will hopefully also stop me from snacking. Fingers crossed I can do this!

Number Four:

I am a big advocate for “me” time, however in all honestly the past few weeks I have not taken enough time for myself to just relax and be me. Its time I listened to my own advice and take some time out my busy life and relax.

Number Five:

This is my last one and I think its going to be equally as hard as Number One. Its time to let things go! I am constantly getting myself upset or annoyed because of the tiny little things in life. its time I just let it go and not let it bother me any more. I have no idea if this will be achievable but giving it my very best go will hopefully equal to a happier more contented me.

I would love to hear what you think of my goals? have I taken on too many? if you are interested in my little group chat idea let me know I would love to hear from you.

Hope you all have a lovely New years and I shall be posting again on Monday with a food shop haul!
